With a very heavy and saddened heart, we announce the demise of Ranjit Singh, one of the first references to AV activism and expertise in Asia. Ranjit passed away on 15th May 2020 leaving behind his wife and two daughters, aged 19 and 21. A multi-faceted AV luminary in Asia, Ranjit Singh was a much acclaimed consultant, speaker, trainer, educator, mentor and entrepreneur too.
He is the first Asian to have achieved CTS, CTS-I and CTS-D all in a row. Ranjit Singh had been known for his training and entrepreneurial exploits as also for his design expertise credentials from across the world.
Having founded RST Technologies with offices in Singapore and India, he seeded new talents even as value adding to the AV design industry across the continents. His current appointment was with PTS Consulting (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. as Principal Consultant – Workspace Technology.
“It is with great sadness that we mark the untimely passing of Ranjit Singh, an AV industry icon in the APAC region. Ranjit Singh has been an inspirational AVIXA volunteer and faculty member for more than 20 years. Not only was he AVIXA’s first dual-certified AV professional in Asia, he was a remarkable teacher with a kind demeanour who earned the respect of an entire region. His loss will be felt by people everywhere, and especially in the Asia Pacific AV industry where so many have learned from him and shared great experiences with him,” said David Labuskes, CEO of AVIXA.
The entire AVIXA team is grateful for Ranjit’s contributions and wishes his family well in this difficult time.
Tom Mui, Managing Director of PTS Consulting (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., comments, “I have lost a friend, collaborator and mentor. We spoke daily about normal things, trivial things, and sometimes more lofty things. I simply can’t believe he’s gone. My sense of loss is profound. His expertise was way beyond tech. He’d been there, done that, bought that t-shirt, tore-it up and reinvented another one.”
“Generous with his time, and his advice, Iron fist in a velvet glove, pit-bull when he needed to be, and overall just quite simply a Jedi.”
“He was an extraordinarily modest, humble and yet a consummate AV Professional,” recalls Abdul Waheed, a long-time protégé sort associate with Ranjit, at the RST Technologies in Mumbai, and the Founder-Managing Director of EYTE Technologies.
Ranjit’s long-time friend, and Principal Consultant at T2 Consulting Kelvin Ashby-King says, “Ranjit has been a friend for the last 20+ years, from his Deca days …. we meet normally 5-6 times a year at events or for a coffee if he was in Bengaluru, and the start of the conversation always was ….. “smoking and drinking are going to be the end of you . …. Just Stop It” …… and he was very rough with me on this every time we meet and sometimes out of the blue I would get a chat message on the same subject….. but it was done with love and caring and that sums up Ranjit for me …… a loving and caring person, passionate about AV, his family and life …..
“You will be missed by me and the whole AV industry who respected you so much.”
“Ranjit was very supportive of our involvement with the AV industry. He also partnered us to bring CTS education to India a few years back. He always had good advice for us and spoke to us about trends and what we should do to continue to serve the AV industry. We will certainly miss him,” said Thomas Prakasam, Publisher, Systems Integration Asia magazine.
