Velocity – a chic lounge bar in the heat of Kochi’s business district – is known for its elegant combination of elite lounging experience with the perks of an upmarket fine-dining restaurant. The venue has, for long, proudly stood as a cornerstone of the city’s thriving nightlife. A recent upgrade to its audio ambience has further transformed the ‘Velocity’ into a vivacious new venue that truly encapsulates the essence of Kochi as a city.
Now replete with uber chic décor, luxurious furniture, tantalizing cocktails, delicious bites and a truly regale ambience, Velocity, in its new avatar, offers the nearby burgeoning corporate locale with a luxurious dining and lounging experience that has apparently propelled the nightlife quotient for revellers of all ages.
Playing a key role in this success is incredibly impressive and bespoke sound architecture that Velocity has acquired as part of its upgradation puruit.
Designed and installed by locally-based AV solutions provider Zacs ‘N’ Phils, the new sound system at Velocity features reputed pro audio brands Tannoy and Behringer, particularly spotlighting the Tannoy VX series loudspeakers, Behringer VP series subwoofers, and Behringer’s KM series Class D amplifiers.
“The previously existing sound system was felt to be not matching with the ambience the visitors loved; so the management decided to revamp the system that delivers the desired experience,” explains Zacs ‘N’ Phils business manager Manu P. “After several rounds of discussions and EASE simulations, we were able to figure out the products that could achieve desired levels of output, and deliver the kind of sound experience that could hit the sweet-spot.”
According to the executive, the upgrade has had a significant impact on the overall sound quality and listening experience. Interestingly, Velocity has become the first venue in Kochi to feature Tannoy’s dual concentric speakers.”
In total, there are over 14 units of the Tannoy VX6 loudspeakers mounted at precise points to offer uniform coverage and crystal-clear sound output with optimum frequency response; complemented with 4 units of the compact yet extremely powerful VP1800S subwoofers from Behringer that have been placed at strategic locations to deliver impactful low-frequency fidelity.
The entire loudspeaker solution is driven through multiple numbers of the KM750 and KM1700 class D power amplifiers from Behringer, while a single unit of the XENYX Q1204USB compact console providing unparalleled control over the quality of sound output thanks to its in-built XENYX mic preamps and compressors.
There are two areas in Velocity that play live and EDM music and broadcast sports tournaments. The first zone is equipped with eight VX6 speakers and two VP1800 subwoofers, while the second zone has seven VX6 speakers and two subwoofers, all powered by Behringer Class D Amplifiers. The positioning of each loudspeaker and subwoofer has been done meticulously following several simulations and analyses.
Says Manu about their choice for Tannoy: “Tannoy’s unique Dual Concentric driver design helped us to create a more precise and coherent sound resulting in better imaging and soundstage, and we are extremely satisfied with the outcome.”
That the speaker brad chosen was the first instance in Kerala, there was some undefined scepticism at the management initially informs Manu, but the client reposed confidence in the solution provider’s expertise and reasoning for choice. “We couldn’t be happier with the final result,” he says, thanking the client for the trust placed on integrator.
The management at Velocity is apparently impressed with their newly acquired sound system.
Says Jerry John Velocity’s Managing Partner commending the integrator: “Right from my first enquiry, Zacs and Phils have shown utmost level of professionalism in their approach and their working methodologies. We had nearly 5 to 6 rounds of discussions and they were extremely proactive in engaging and explaining all technical aspects related to the set up. It was a real pleasure working with them.”
Well, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, right? Customers have been talking non-stop about the elevated music experience, and they can’t seem to get enough of it!
